Malachi Constant Orpheus Rock Opera

Last year a couple friends of mine Justin Neme and John Price presented a rock opera at Scarlet and Grey cafe They played under the name Malachi Constant. The opera itself is described as a triple layered metaphorIt superficially chronicles the journey of orpheus to return eurydice (his wife) to the land of the living. Beneath that, it’s a monomyth related to the passing of youthful narcissism and dream. Beneath that, it’s a metaphor for being in a relationship with someone who has a borderline personality disorder.

It’s about watching someone you love go from being completely normal to being institutionalized and eventually taking a razor blade to their face. The slow, painful journey of love founded on unshakable faith. The writer watched the woman he was engaged to slowly destroy herself for four years and wrote it for over a year in an effort to save her.
